Dr Jay Kettle-Williams : Avoiding culture clash in a globalising world

Date: Wednesday 15th July, 2009
Venue: Best Western Royal Beach Hotel, St. Helen's Parade, Southsea, PO4 0RN, 02392 731281

Avoiding Culture Clash in a globalising world:
How to ‘get the edge’ by building and maintaining rapport across international and cultural borders

It is often said that the world is shrinking. Cheaper air travel, e-mail, video-conferencing and the telephone make it easier than ever to do business with business partners from other countries. Whether suppliers, customers, project teams or an IT helpdesk, we are more likely than ever to be working with colleagues from other territories where there are likely to be differing social norms.

Building relationships and avoiding ‘culture clash’ is key. JCI Portsmouth is proud to be joined by Dr Jay Kettle-Williams, director at KW Communications Svs and winner of ‘The News’ lifetime achievement award who will be exploring these themes in more detail.

During this session, you will hear:

  • How to improve relationships with International colleagues, by avoiding simple mistakes that leave a lasting impression
  • How people express themselves in a cross-cultural environment, and how to build rapport
  • How to gain a sense of self awareness, and sensitise yourself to working across cultures

Jay is a truly entertaining and inspiring speaker, so expect to laugh, learn and get involved as we discover how best to work in cross-cultural environments.

Note: The date of this talk was originally advertised to be held on Thursday 2 July and it has subsequently been moved to Thursday 16 July 2009. JCI Portsmouth would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
